My CNC is
made with Alafoss Lopi, 100% Icelandic Wool. The finished
underarm measurement is 60". I used 10 - 100g. balls of the
main colour and 4 - 100g. balls of the trim colour. Each ball
is approx.110 yds. so my total consumption of yarn equals approx. 1,540
yds.
|
I
used a 5.5 mm needle with a gauge of 3.5 sts equals 1". After doing the
calculations as set out in the pattern I cast on 298 sts.
|
 |
 |
I knit the
pockets to be 10" tall and after fusing the pockets I was left with 206
sts for the body. Then I fused the bottom of the pockets and did
8 ridges of garter stitch with a 4.5 mm needle, then changed to the trim
colour and did a 3 st. i-cord bind-off leaving the 3 sts. on a safety pin
to carry on up the front.
I
then continued up the body until it measured 19" in total. I inserted
2 sets of short rows in the back. At the underarm I used 6" worth
of sts. (20) instead of the 4" called for in the pattern and cast on 56
sts. for the sleeve.
|
Raglan Decreases
- I used the "Hot Flash" double decreases every row for 10 rows and then
every other row until there were 20 sts. (6") left for the saddles.
|
 |
 |
I completed
the shoulder and back of neck saddles and then did the sleeves, leaving
the front border and shawl collar until last.
|
Sleeves -
I ended up with 60 sts for the top of the sleeve and needed to reduce to
45 sts. for the cuff.
Because I have
fairly short arms I did the decreases every 6 rows instead of every 8 rows
as stated in the pattern. I then changed to the 4.5 mm needle and
did 20 ridges of garter stitch to make a long cuff that could be folded
back and still be large enough to go over my wrist splints. The cuff
is long enough to just cover my fingertips when it's unfolded, so I don't
have to worry about gloves when I'm wearing my wrist splints.

Front
Border - I picked up the stitches for the border and with the 4.5
mm needle, and with the trim colour, knit 3 ridges of garter stitch.
I did 6 buttonholes on the 4th ridge. On the 5th ridge I started
the shawl collar.
|
Shawl Collar
- When I was doing the front edge decreases earlier, I had marked the first
front edge decrease stitch and starting 5 sts. below the marker I did the
short rows for the collar at 5 st. intervals until the back of the collar
measured about 5", then I did the final complete row. Then using
the 3 sts. on the safety pin, I did the i-cord bind off all around until
I reached the beginning of the i-cord on the other side and grafted the
sts. together. And it was done!
